THE Parliamentary Committee on the Constitution and Legal Affairs has commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for launching the “Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign,” aimed at educating and empowering citizens to access their rights.
Joseph Tadayo, the Committee’s representative, made the statement over the weekend during the campaign launch in Arusha.
Tadayo noted that while many leaders have failed in upholding the rule of law, President Samia has set a positive example.
“The goal of this campaign is to empower citizens to recognise and access their rights, enshrined in the Constitution and laws. Without awareness, these rights can be upheld despite their existence,” Tadayo said.
He emphasised that many leaders have undermined their authority for not educating people about their rights.
Tadayo stressed that leaders who promote the rule of law must be confident and believe in justice. “President Samia believes in justice and that is why she launched this campaign to help people pursue their rights.”
The Committee reiterated its support for President Samia’s campaign to ensure it benefits citizens, particularly in securing their fundamental rights.
“It is important for citizens to recognise the value of this campaign and seek this vital free service. For those of us entrusted with delivering justice, this message is clear: President Samia wants us to administer justice wherever we serve the people,” Tadayo added.
Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs Dr Damas Ndumbaro reported that Arusha is the 23rd region to be reached by the campaign, which had already benefited 2,192,372 citizens, including 1,884,457 men and 1,109,915 women.
