IN a major push to enhance oral healthcare, Tanzania is set to host its inaugural Dental Expo 2025 in Dar es Salaam next month, bringing together over 2,000 participants from across the globe.

The event promises to provide a crucial platform for knowledge exchange and introduction of innovative dental technologies to the country.

Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Dr Baraka Nzobo, Chairman of Tanzania Dental Expo Board and assistant director for oral health services at the Ministry of Health, confirmed that the two-day event, scheduled for May 30-31, will involve dental professionals, healthcare providers, industry leaders and other key stakeholders.

He said the expo aims to foster collaboration and drive innovation in Tanzania’s dental health subsector.

Dr Nzobo explained that the event aligns with the country's broader healthcare goals, particularly in addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and working towards achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.

“The expo will feature a range of activities designed to enhance dental practices, including workshops, live product demonstrations and B2B meetings.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with both local and international manufacturers, healthcare providers and financial institutions, all crucial in fostering investment and collaboration within the subsector,” he said.

Dr Ambege Mwakatobe, executive director of Tanzania Dental Expo, underscored the significance of the event not only for Tanzania but also for neighbouring countries.

He emphasized that the expo would provide an invaluable opportunity for professionals to stay up to date with the latest trends and technological advancements in the global dental health industry.

As Tanzania’s economy continues to grow and demand for high-quality dental care increases, Dr Mwakatobe noted that the event would help establish the country as a leading destination for investment in the dental health subsector.

“The Tanzania Dental Expo 2025 will play a central role in driving technological innovations and forging strategic partnerships that will shape the future of Tanzania’s oral healthcare system,” he said.

Reports show that despite the country’s rapid growth, Tanzania’s dental health subsector faces significant challenges, including a shortage of trained professionals, insufficient infrastructure and limited access to modern equipment.

However, the government is committed to addressing the issues, with a goal of expanding oral health services to 20 percent of primary healthcare facilities by 2030.
