KIBAHA District Commissioner, Nickson Simon, has emphasised the crucial role of private sector involvement in supporting the government’s education improvement initiatives.
DC Simon made the remarks over the weekend during a donation event where 100 pairs of shoes were presented to pupils at Miyombo Primary School in Kibaha District, Coast Region.
The shoes were donated by Atuza, a Dar es Salaam-based footwear manufacturing company.
“Our President Samia Suluhu Hassan has made significant investments in education, ensuring it is more accessible to all. Such efforts from the private sector are key to advancing these goals,” Simon stated.
Simon further noted that such donations could significantly impact pupils' academic performance, particularly those who lack basic school supplies.
He emphasised how the shoes would help boost pupils' self-confidence, enhancing their ability to focus and excel in their studies.
Bernardina Kahabuka, Kibaha District’s education officer for early childhood and primary schools, shared that many pupils in the area attend school barefoot or in worn-out shoes due to financial constraints.
She expressed gratitude for the donation, stating that it has already made a positive difference at Miyombo Primary School, instilling a renewed sense of pride and confidence in the pupils.
Atuza Nkurlu, the founder of Atuza, highlighted the company’s commitment to community involvement.
He explained that each purchase made at Atuza directly contributes to initiatives like this one, providing hope and opportunities for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“Our goal is to protect, uplift, and inspire pupils by offering practical support. We want to ensure they feel confident and equipped to succeed,” Nkurlu said.
The donation is part of Atuza’s five-year anniversary celebration and marks a significant milestone for the company, which began by selling second-hand shoes before expanding to produce high-quality footwear to meet rising demand. Atuza plans to expand further across Africa and globally while remaining dedicated to social responsibility and community-driven initiatives.
Nkurlu revealed that the company aims to donate over 10,000 pairs of shoes within the next two years as part of its ongoing mission to empower youth and enhance their educational experience.
This initiative is in line with Atuza's broader mission to provide essential resources to children, particularly those from low-income families, to help them succeed in their education and beyond.
