ENVOYS representing Tanzania in various countries need to pursue efforts initiated by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in strengthening diplomatic ties and promoting economic diplomacy with nations across the globe.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa issued this appeal in a meeting in the capital yesterday with Ambassador Hamad Khamis Hamad posted in Mozambique, and Ambassador Mobhare Matinyi, stationed in Sweden, underlining that the president’s approach fosters closer international relations and also creates significant opportunities for attracting foreign investment into manufacturing, agriculture, trade and services.
Economic diplomacy is a pillar in the government’s efforts to boost Tanzania’s presence on the global stage, he stated, asserting that by enhancing diplomatic relations with other countries Tanzania will be better positioned to access new markets for its products, secure investments and foster job creation at home.
“Tanzania looks to diversify its economy, and economic diplomacy plays a central role in this,” he said, focusing on the need to attract investors interested in our industrial, agricultural and trade sectors.
“It is essential that our ambassadors work tirelessly to build and maintain strong, mutually beneficial relationships with in those countries,” he emphasized, affirming that the government has placed trust in our foreign envoys to uphold the country’s foreign relations.
They are also tasked with ensuring accountability in the management of public funds in respective diplomatic missions, being vigilant in overseeing the use of government resources to guarantee transparency and efficiency in diplomatic activities.
Envoys need to take an active role in promoting Kiswahili abroad on account of its growing use in people to people communication and cross border business in most of East and Central Africa.
Promoting Kiswahili is vital as It is our cultural heritage and we must work to ensure that it is taught and embraced globally, the premier intimated, highlighting the importance of expanding Tanzania’s global diplomatic footprint.
The country needs to foster educational exchanges and facilitate partnerships that will enhance its long-term development objectives, where diplomatic missions play a vital role in enabling the country’s goals to be realized, he added.
