THE election process for the Football Referees Association of Tanzania (FRAT) has officially got underway in Tanga, marking the start of a crucial leadership transition for the body tasked with overseeing football officiating in the country.

Qualified members are now eligible to contest various key leadership positions, including the chairperson, a representative to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) General Assembly, and three spots on FRAT's national executive committee.

Announcing the launch, FRAT election committee chairman George Banoba (pictured) confirmed that nomination forms will be available from April 13, with the application window closing on April 19.

“The regulations to be followed are as outlined in the association’s statutes. I urge all members who meet the required criteria to come forward and vie for the positions,” Banoba emphasized.

He further noted that any objections or disputes will be addressed as per the laid-out procedures.

Candidate vetting interviews, according to Banoba, are scheduled to take place from April 27-29, with the official campaign period concluding on April 29 following the announcement of the shortlisted candidates.

“The election has been slated for May 30 and will be held right here in Tanga,” Banoba confirmed.

He also reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to upholding the association’s constitution throughout the process.

Once the new leadership is elected and sworn in, Banoba said, they will review the current strategic plan to determine whether it aligns with the association’s objectives or requires updating, all without compromising FRAT’s cores.
