POLICE in Zanzibar have assured residents of the busy Urban West Region of their safety throughout Easter celebrations.

Briefing reporters at Muembe Madema police station yesterday, Acting Urban West Regional Police Commander ACP Abubakar Khamis Ally, said officers would step up patrols in public spaces and places of worship.

ACP Ally assured Christian worshippers that all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure peaceful observances and celebrations.

“With intensified patrols and heightened security, we warn anyone considering criminal activity over the Easter holiday to desist—we will not tolerate it,” he stated.

He urged the public to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activity, and take precautions when leaving their homes.

ACP Ally also called on drivers to obey traffic rules and warned against reckless behaviour. He said a sufficient number of officers would be deployed to maintain road safety.

“Anyone caught violating traffic laws will face strict legal action,” he warned.

He further encouraged the public to celebrate in moderation, avoid excessive drinking, and follow road safety protocols to protect their lives and the safety of others.
