THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that campaigns for the 2025 General Election — covering councillors, Members of Parliament, and the President — will officially begin on August 28 this year.
The announcement was made today, July 26, 2025, in Dodoma by INEC Chairman Judge Jacob Mwambegele during the unveiling of the official election timetable.
Judge Mwambegele also revealed that a total of 99,911 polling stations will be used across the United Republic of Tanzania. Out of these, 97,349 stations will be in Mainland Tanzania, while 2,562 stations will serve voters in Zanzibar.
This reflects a 22.49 percent increase compared to the 81,467 polling stations used during the 2020 General Election.
