AS the vibrant city of Dodoma gears up for the highly anticipated Dodoma Marathon tomorrow, a significant stride towards enhancing public safety has been taken.
The main sponsors of the race have stepped up, donating 10 motorcycles valued at 28 million shillings to the regional commissioner’s office.
This generous contribution is more than just a gift; it is a commitment to community welfare and security, reflecting the bank's dedication to supporting local initiatives that foster social well-being.
The donation ceremony unfolded at the regional commissioner’s office in Dodoma, attended by key figures including the District Commissioner, Jabir Shekimweri, who represented the RC, Rosemary Senyamule.
Alongside regional officials, representatives from the police force and NBC employees, led by director of corporate clients and government clients, Elvis Ndunguru, came together to celebrate this impactful moment.
The event underscored the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors in enhancing community safety.
During his remarks, Shekimweri articulated the significance of the motorcycles, emphasizing their role in fortifying the capabilities of local law enforcement. In light of the upcoming general elections, which often bring increased security needs, these motorcycles are expected to bolster patrol efficiency and ensure a secure environment for both residents and marathon participants.
“This support is a direct response from NBC Bank following a request from the region last year. We are deeply thankful to the bank for this timely assistance,” he remarked, underscoring the critical need for heightened security measures.
The Dodoma Marathon, an event that goes beyond mere athletic competition, serves as a platform for raising awareness about pressing health issues, particularly cervical cancer.
This year’s marathon aims not only to draw 12,000 participants - an impressive increase from 8,000 last year - but also to drive initiatives that expand support for midwives education aimed at reaching an additional 200 midwives and fund the education of nurses dedicated to caring for children with autism.
The quality of the special jerseys and kits provided by the bank further signify the bank's commitment to making this event a success.
DC Shekimweri praised the meticulous preparations for the marathon and expressed optimism about its potential to stimulate Dodoma’s economy, especially through tourism and hospitality.
“It is gratifying to note the growth of participation and the enhancement of prizes for runners. I urge the people of Dodoma to turn out in numbers to support this event,” he encouraged, calling for a communal spirit of encouragement along the marathon’s route.
Echoing these sentiments, Ndunguru expressed immense gratitude towards the regional leadership for their active engagement in making the marathon preparations a reality. He reiterated that the motorcycle donation aligns with the bank’s broader commitment to the region’s security plan, ensuring that Dodoma remains a safe venue for community gatherings and events.
“Our response today is a testament to the strong partnership we have fostered with government authorities,” Ndunguru mentioned. “When the region approached us for assistance, we recognized their proactive strategy to combat crime and protect the safety of our citizens. We are proud to contribute to these efforts as we approach the marathon.”
Receiving the motorcycles on behalf of the Dodoma Regional Police Commander (RPC), ACP Galus Hyera, representative ACP Daniel Bendarugaho emphasized the essential role the motorcycles will play in enhancing police patrols across the city.
“These motorcycles will be invaluable in our efforts to ensure public safety during the marathon and beyond,” he affirmed, reinforcing the collaborative spirit that defines this initiative.
As the Dodoma Marathon draws nearer, the strong sense of community that pervades the preparations is palpable. With the backing of the bank and the local authorities, Dodoma stands poised not only to host a successful marathon but also to foster a safer, more resilient community. In the days ahead, thousands will not only run for a cause but will also cheer for a safer, healthier future for all.
