Katavi has been honored with the opportunity to host the 2025 International Literacy Day and Adult Education Week, part of the government’s efforts to boost community participation in learning and literacy activities.

Opening a working session for adult education officers in the region, Katavi Regional Administrative Secretary, Albert Msovela, described the upcoming commemoration as a unique opportunity for residents of the region and the nation at large to acquire new skills that can help improve their livelihoods.

“Hosting this event is not just an honor for Katavi; it is a chance to inspire a culture of reading and learning among citizens. We want this education to be a catalyst for transforming lives and contributing to national development, he said.

Felister Mapunda,  Coordinator of Adult Education from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, noted that the meeting aims to strengthen the capacity of officers implementing adult education programs, ensuring effective management and positive results.

She added: “Through collaboration with stakeholders, the Ministry is putting into practice the Education and Training Policy of 2014 (2023 Edition), with the goal of ensuring every Tanzanian has access to learning opportunities regardless of age or position within the formal education system.

Education stakeholders emphasized that the upcoming commemoration will provide a platform to address challenges facing adult education and to identify better approaches to ensure it fully contributes to the country’s sustainable development.
