Liberation parties featuring at final steps of Samia campaign

REPRESENTATIVES of several former liberation movements and now friendly political parties yesterday featured at the final stage of the ruling party campaign in Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital.

CCM Secretary General Dr Asha-Rose Migiro said the Temeke rally was attended by the Communist Party of China (CPC), the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa, the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), the National Resistance Movement (NRM( of Uganda and the SWAPO of Namibia, noting that this demonstrates Tanzania’s growing international friendship and credibility.

With six days to go before Tanzanians head to the polls, leading presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan urged the nation’s youth to reject attempts to incite unrest, saying peace is the foundation upon which the country’s future depends.

In remarks at the Tanesco grounds campaign meeting in Temeke District, she appealed to young people to remain calm, patriotic and law-abiding. “Let me tell the youth, we, your parents, are passing the baton to you. You are the ones who will lead this country tomorrow. Do not be deceived by those who want to destroy our peace. This nation belongs to you,” she said.

“Please, my young people, protect your country’s peace. Follow the constitution, the laws and established procedures. If you do that, you will live in harmony,” she passionately appealed, asking the public to turn out in large numbers to vote peacefully, reiterated that security organs are fully prepared to protect the public and ensure a smooth and secure voting process.

Turning to development, the candidate described Temeke and Kigamboni districts as fast-growing industrial hubs that are pivotal to Tanzania’s economic transformation.

“Temeke and Kigamboni are now key drivers of Tanzania’s industrial growth,” she said, pledging to reinforce this process and promote dignity, decent housing and sustainable livelihoods for all.

Quoting the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Samia said Tanzania’s progress depends on essential pillars of people, land, good politics and good leadership, expressing intent to uphold those ideals by ensuring equitable development across all regions.

She said the National Housing Corporation (NHC) was working to build modern, affordable homes, while the government is using new technology to formalise land ownership and eliminate land conflicts.

“We will make sure no single plot is sold to more than one person. Through fair land distribution and modern systems, we are ending land disputes once and for all,” she emphasised.

The party’s lead campaign organiser said that President Samia has invested heavily across multiple sectors to improve the lives of the people as under her leadership, government institutions have been strengthened, and the judiciary is now faster and more efficient in delivering justice.

Prof Kitila Mkumbo, the Planning and Investment state minister and Ubungo parliamentary candidate, said Tanzania’s economy has grown from 141trn/- to 230trn/- during the past four years, reflecting strong macroeconomic management during the period.

“Inflation has been reduced to 3.1 percent, a sign of the government’s commitment to economic stability and growth,” he said, while Mahmud Thabit Kombo, the Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation minister, said that strengthened international relations enabled Tanzania to secured 50,000 overseas jobs for the youth, with another 20,000 opportunities on the way.

Abdallah Ulega, the Works minister and Mkuranga parliamentary candidate, praised the president for transforming Tanzania’s infrastructure landscape. Over the past four years, 1.7trn/- has been channelled for major road projects, and 600bn/- for urban and rural roads, he said.

“In Dar es Salaam alone, infrastructure upgrades have eased traffic, improved mobility and enhanced the city’s beauty and investment appeal,” he added.
