AMOS Makalla, CCM Secretary for Ideology, Publicity, and Training, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction of the Somanga-Mtama Bridge in Kilwa District, Lindi Region.
He urged Minister of Works Abdallah Ulega to hold accountable those responsible for delays in the project, calling for all bridges under construction to meet the required standards, reflecting the value of government funds allocated for the projects.
After inspecting the construction, Makalla, who is on a 10-day tour of Lindi and Mtwara regions, acknowledged the challenges and noted Ulega's frustration over the situation.
“After hearing about these challenges, I understand Minister Ulega’s frustration,” Makalla said. “CCM has a social contract with the people, and President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as both President and Party Chairperson, is committed to ensuring communication is restored. I commend that leadership.”
Makalla expressed full support for Ulega and urged him to continue fighting for the people's interests, emphasizing that CCM will ensure citizens are not neglected. He also called on Ulega to ensure all bridges meet the highest standards, as President Samia has allocated the necessary funds.
“We are accountable to the people, which is why I’ve come to see firsthand the challenges they face,” Makalla said. “I am satisfied with the progress made by the Ministry of Works and Lindi Regional government. Now we can pass through.”
Makalla further urged contractors to prioritize quality, ensuring bridges can withstand the elements and prevent issues like roads being washed away during rains. He also encouraged TANROADS officials to assist Ulega in ensuring quality construction.
He praised President Samia for her focus on broad national interests, mentioning various infrastructure projects, including electricity, roads, healthcare, and education.
"This ministry is serious. From the first day, I saw the firmness needed for the broader interests of CCM and the government. The lazy ones should be held accountable,” Makalla added.
Addressing Somanga Ward residents, Makalla reaffirmed that CCM is truly accountable to the people, unlike opposition parties that only passed through the region with empty promises. He urged the public to ignore false claims and misleading promises from others.
“Don’t be misled. CCM is the party with the right vision. Forget those who passed through here and spoke nonsense,” he said.
Minister Ulega confirmed the government had allocated over 100bn/- for the construction of 13 bridges. He thanked CCM for visiting affected areas and explained that emergency repairs had allowed traffic to resume after Tanzanians were stranded for two days.
Ulega also noted that President Samia had instructed further repairs to be made, and the 2025/26 budget would address the damaged sections, rebuilding them to required standards.
