A SPECIAL session of the legislature is expected today to receive the government’s proposed budget framework for the 2025/26 financial year.
A statement by the public communication and education unit of the parliamentary secretariat said yesterday that Finance Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba will present an outline of the government’s budget proposals for 2025/26 on projected revenue and expenditure.
Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, the Planning and Investment minister, will sketch out the government’s proposed development plan, after which the parliamentary Budget Committee will sit down to conduct an extensive analysis of the proposed budget framework.
The legislature’s 11 sectoral committees will meet differently to assess the progress of development projects implementation funded in the current financial year.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Local Authorities Accounts Committee (LAAC) intend to visit a number of project sites as an aspect of monitoring the use of public funds, taking up issues raised by the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) where relevant, the statement noted.
The Public Investment Committee (PIC) will similarly evaluate the execution of public investment projects to evaluate their effectiveness and compliance with laws, regulations and business guidelines, it specified, noting that the Budget Committee is expected to visit North Mara Gold Mine in the same pursuit
After these visits, the committees will analyse ministerial reports on Budget implementation along with the revenue and expenditure estimates for fiscal 2025/26, it added.
