THE Nourish Tanzania project, an initiative focused on improving agriculture and nutrition, has reached over 168,000 households across 10 districts in Dodoma, Manyara, Rukwa, Singida and Songwe regions.

Funded by the Norwegian Development Agency (NORAD), the project is implemented by SNV in collaboration with Farm Africa, RECODA, and MIICO. Its core objectives include enhancing food security, combating malnutrition and building community resilience to climate change.

Speaking during Farmers’ Day celebrations in Nghumbi Village, Kongwa District Commissioner Mayeke Mayeke outlined several key achievements of the project. These include connecting 6,000 farmers with quality agricultural input suppliers and training 472 community health workers in nutrition practices.

“More than 400 lead farmers have received training in climate-smart agriculture. The project has also established 47 farming groups with 1,880 members, set up 47 demonstration plots, distributed 28,000 sweet potato vines, and provided 825 kilograms of planting fertilizer along with 525 kilograms of top-dressing fertilizer,” said Mayeke.

He commended the significant impact the project has achieved in just one year, emphasizing its alignment with Tanzania’s Vision 2025. He called on communities to sustain the initiative with dedication and discipline, especially in the fight against drought and child stunting.

Theophil Tarimo, Nourish Tanzania project officer, added that the initiative has promoted home gardening, leading to the creation of 177 household gardens. It has also improved smallholder farmers' access to agricultural inputs and enhanced their skills through practical, hands-on training.
