THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has warned that moral decay at the family level is fuelling rampant corruption among public servants and other sectors.
Speaking in Dodoma today July 30, 2025, PCCB Director General Crispin Chalamila said the absence of morals is the starting point of all societal problems, including corruption. He was opening a two‑day workshop on ethics and good governance bringing together institutions overseeing workplace and professional ethics.
Chalamila explained that the theme of the workshop, “Moral decay is one of the causes of corruption; let us work together to strengthen ethics,” was chosen to highlight how weakening values at the grassroots level feeds unethical behavior.
He noted that even the most skilled public servant is likely to engage in misconduct, including soliciting bribes, if they lack strong ethical values.
More on that he said, the responsibility for overseeing public service ethics, including preventing corruption, falls under the Office of the President – Public Service Management and Good Governance, in accordance with Section 8(3)(e) of the Public Service Act (Chapter 298).
