PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has announced that President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to inaugurate the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge—commonly known as the JP Magufuli Bridge—on June 19, 2025.

Majaliwa made the announcement today while addressing residents of Sengerema during his ongoing two-day tour of Mwanza Region.

He emphasized the importance of attendance by citizens from various regions that benefit from the bridge, noting that the event would mark a significant solution to long-standing transport and logistics challenges.

“It reduces both travel time and costs. I believe this milestone brings joy to many, and we look forward to joining you in celebration,” Majaliwa said.

Speaking at the same gathering, Minister of Works Abdallah Ulega confirmed that the bridge is now 100 percent complete and that the public would be officially informed that it was constructed using Tanzanian funds.

“I would like to inform the people of Sengerema, Mwanza Region, and all Tanzanians that this bridge is now complete. We have invited President Samia Suluhu Hassan to join citizens in celebrating the official launch of this 3-kilometre bridge over water,” Ulega said.

He further noted that the bridge is the longest of its kind in Africa and will significantly ease the burden of travelers who previously spent three to four hours commuting, reducing travel time to just three to five minutes.

“Every Tanzanian should be proud and say, ‘I made this happen.’ We are deeply grateful to President Samia and her predecessor, Dr. John Pombe Magufuli, for their vision and guidance that led to this achievement. We expect a grand celebration, and on that day, the nation and the world should know that we built this bridge ourselves,” Ulega added.
