PO-RALG disbursed 254.8 bn/- for 2024 local government elections

THE Ministry of State in the President's Office (Regional Administration and Local Governments) has allocated 254.8 bn/- in the 2024/2025 financial year to coordinate and oversee the 2024 Local Government Elections.

Presenting the ministry’s budget estimates for 2025/2026 in Parliament today, April 16, 2025, in Dodoma, Minister Mohamed Mchengerwa said the amount includes 247.03 bn/- from the Central Government and 7.78 bn/- from local councils' internal revenues.

The elections focused on grassroots leadership, including the selection of village, street, and hamlet chairpersons, village council members, and street committee members. 

Activities carried out included verification of administrative areas covering 3,956 wards, 12,333 villages, 4,269 streets, and 64,274 hamlets, preparation of election documents, public awareness and voter education, procurement and distribution of materials, as well as coordination, supervision, and monitoring of the entire voting process.

He added: “Local authorities were also responsible for voter registration, candidate nominations, and election campaigns.”
