PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has urged religious leaders in the country to continue strongly condemning actions that go against the morals of religion and Tanzanian culture.
"I urge our religious leaders to make the issue of strengthening upbringing and combating the erosion of morals a permanent agenda. We must uphold good morals for the nation to be sustainable," he said.
Majaliwa made the call yesterday when speaking during the consecration and installation ceremony of the second bishop of the Anglican Church Diocese of Kiteto, Bishop Bethuel Mlula, held at the St. Michael Anglican Cathedral in Kiteto, Manyara Region.
He encouraged religious leaders to continue motivating their followers to support various national agendas, including environmental conservation, the clean energy campaign, tree planting, and active participation in all stages of the 2025 general elections.
The premier who represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan congratulated the retired first bishop of the church, Bishop Isaiah Chambala, for his significant contributions during his leadership. He also assured him of continued cooperation for the broader interests of the people of Kiteto and all Tanzanians.
"I want to take this opportunity to assure our religious leaders that the government stands with you. We will continue holding joint meetings, and we truly value the dedication you have shown in supporting this government," he said.
Bishop Mlula, for his part, praised the sixth phase government for its considerable efforts to promote development across various sectors, including health and education.
He also commended the government for maintaining peace, unity, and stability, which were established by Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere and Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume. "Peace is a gift that God has given us; let us use this peace to foster development," he emphasised.
Rev. Maimbo Mndolwa, Bishop of Tanga and Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, urged people of Kiteto to verify their names in the permanent voter register to participate in the upcoming parliamentary and council elections.
"The right to be included in the register is yours, but you can lose it if you don't use it properly. Let us actively engage in the processes organised by the government."
