THE Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a warning regarding Cyclone 'JUDE' in the Indian Ocean near the Mozambique Channel, advising that the cyclone could influence weather patterns and lead to increased rainfall in parts of the country.
In a statement released yesterday TMA explained that meteorological analysis indicates the cyclone was expected to make landfall in Mozambique later yesterday before weakening.
“Cyclone 'JUDE' is projected to return to the ocean and regain strength between March 13 and 15, 2025. However, given its current trajectory and distance, it is not expected to directly impact Tanzania,” the statement noted.
TMA further highlighted that the cyclone’s presence in the Mozambique Channel could still affect weather systems in Tanzania, leading to heavier rainfall in several regions.
This development coincides with the beginning of the long rains (Masika) season, which typically affects areas experiencing two rainy seasons annually.
The authority has advised both marine users and the general public to stay informed through weather forecasts and to follow guidance from relevant authorities.
“The TMA is closely monitoring Cyclone 'JUDE' and its potential impact on weather patterns in the country. Further updates will be provided as needed,” the statement added.
Earlier this year, in January, TMA issued a warning regarding Cyclone Dikeledi, which was also observed in the Indian Ocean along the Mozambique coast.
As weather conditions evolve, TMA urges the public to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions.
