PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has expressed her deep sorrow following the death of Charles Hilary, Director of Communications at Zanzibar State House, who passed away today, May 11, 2025.
In a message posted on her X page, President Samia extended her condolences to the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, the family, relatives, friends, and all media stakeholders in the country for this tremendous loss.
"Charles Hilary will be remembered for his over 40 years of dedicated service to the media sector, from his work in radio to television, as well as his mentorship of young journalists," the President wrote.
She further prayed that Almighty God grants his family strength and patience during this difficult time and may his soul rest in peace.
"Indeed, we all belong to Almighty God, and to Him, we shall return."
Charles Hilary previously worked as a radio presenter at Radio Tanzania Dar es Salaam (RTD) and Radio One before joining the BBC Swahili Service in the United Kingdom. He later returned to Tanzania and was employed by Azam TV.
On February 6, 2023, he was appointed by President Hussein Ali Mwinyi as the Spokesperson of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
He passed away in the early hours of today, May 11, 2025.
