SIMIYU Regional Commissioner Anamringi Macha has called on farmers to take full advantage of the annual Eastern Lake Zone Nanenane Agriculture Exhibition to gain knowledge and improve their farming practices.
Speaking yesterday at the launch of the exhibition held at Nyakabindi Grounds in Bariadi—which brings together participants from Mara, Simiyu and Shinyanga Regions—Macha highlighted the critical role of agriculture in sustaining livelihoods.
“Agriculture is the lifeline of everyone. That is why the government continues to invest heavily in improving this sector. This exhibition is not just a place to pass through—it is an open classroom for anyone seeking to improve their farming activities,” said Macha.
He noted that the event brings together agriculture experts, researchers and input suppliers to offer education and introduce new technologies capable of transforming farmers' lives.
He further emphasised that the use of improved seeds, fertilisers, and modern farming techniques is essential for addressing the current challenges facing the sector.
Meatu District Commissioner, Fauzia Ngatumbura, expressed her satisfaction with the quality of products showcased by entrepreneurs at the exhibition and encouraged them to further enhance their activities.
“I’ve been impressed by the products I’ve seen here. It’s clear that our entrepreneurs are highly creative and produce quality items. However, we must take things further by improving product value and quality so they can compete in broader national and international markets,” she said.
She added that the improvements would help increase entrepreneurs' income and contribute to both local and national economic growth.
The launch was attended by Shinyanga Regional Commissioner, Mboni Mhita, and the Mara Regional Administrative Secretary Gerald Kusaya as part of inter-regional cooperation in organising the event.
