CCM presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan is today scheduled to take her campaign to Nungwi, North Unguja Region, a world-renowned tourist destination, where she will present her party’s policies and election manifesto.

Local food vendor Fatuma Maneno Haji, a resident of Nungwi, said that under the five years of leadership of Samia and Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, women and youth have enjoyed expanded opportunities.

“In the education sector, major improvements have been made, and there is now a greater zeal among our children to attend school. In the past, girls were often married at a young age, but having a woman president has become a mirror for girl children to recognize their place in the nation’s economy,” she said.

She added that since Nungwi is a tourism hotspot, the educational push would allow graduates to seize opportunities in the sector and contribute to the economy.

Huzaima Abdallah Abdillah, a student at Paje Secondary School in South Unguja, noted that the reforms in education included building new schools, supplying teaching and learning materials, and recruiting more teachers.

“There are new schools, more teachers, and all the facilities are available. I want to become an airplane pilot. For us girls, education has given us motivation, helping reduce teenage pregnancies and school dropouts,” she explained.

Nungwi, regarded as a national treasure, is famous for its white sandy beaches, stunning sunsets, and the unique lifestyle of Swahili fishermen. Among its attractions are a sea turtle conservation center, dhow cruises at sunset, and various marine activities, including diving.

All eyes are now on Nungwi, as Samia prepares to take her campaign message to one of Zanzibar’s most iconic tourism gems.
