EXCITEMENT filled Hamburu Grounds in Nungwi, Unguja North, today as thousands of residents and ruling CCM supporters gathered to listen to presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan outline her campaign vision.

The rally, part of her nationwide campaign trail, attracted a large turnout of enthusiastic citizens eager to hear the policies and promises of Tanzania’s first female president as she seeks re-election under the CCM ticket.

Samia’s address in Nungwi comes at a crucial point in the campaign, with her message focusing on sustaining peace, strengthening the Union, and accelerating socio-economic development across Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania.

Crowds in the historic fishing and tourism hub of Nungwi reflected the strong mobilisation efforts of CCM as supporters turned the venue into a sea of green and yellow, chanting party slogans and waving flags as they awaited Dr Samia’s arrival.

Residents expressed hope that Samia’s leadership would continue to address pressing local challenges and deliver tangible improvements for their livelihoods.

Fatma Ali, a fish vendor from Nungwi, said she believed Dr Samia would expand opportunities in the blue economy. “Fishing is our lifeline here. If she supports better markets and modern equipment, many of us will be able to improve our income and support our families,” she said.

For 27-year-old hotel worker Hassan Juma, tourism remains a priority. “We depend heavily on tourism in Nungwi. I hope Dr Samia’s plans will bring more investment, create jobs, and strengthen Zanzibar’s economy,” he explained.

Another resident, Asha Suleiman, emphasised education. “Our children are the future. I trust that Samia will continue to improve schools and ensure more young people, especially girls, have access to quality education,” she said.

Her campaign continues to draw momentum as she traverses different regions, pledging to deepen unity and prosperity for Tanzanians if given another term.
