The Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (THBUB) has called on the Tanzania Police Force to uphold freedom, justice, and peace throughout the 2025 General Election to ensure citizens can exercise their constitutional right to choose their leaders.
The appeal was made today, September 16, 2025, by the Commission’s Chairperson, retired Judge Mathew Mwaimu, during the opening of a training session for police officers on respecting human rights and the principles of good governance during the electoral process.
Judge Mwaimu emphasized that police officers must observe professional ethics, human rights, and good governance principles while performing their duties.
“These training sessions will help police officers fulfill their responsibilities and ensure that human rights and the principles of good governance are respected throughout the general election process,” he said.
He further stated that during the election period, the police have a responsibility to avoid unnecessary conflicts and instead focus on ensuring the safety of people and their property at all times.
“Law enforcement officers must always perform their legal duties, serve the community, and protect everyone from unlawful acts while maintaining the highest level of accountability required by their profession,” Judge Mwaimu stressed.
He added that the main goal of the training is to enhance police officers’ understanding of the importance of respecting human rights and good governance principles while carrying out their duties, especially during the 2025 general elections.
