Youth in Babati empowered with motorcycles for income generation

IN a move aimed at boosting youth employment and economic empowerment, Babati District Commissioner Emmanuela Kaganda has handed over 10 motorcycles to two youth groups to facilitate passenger transport services.

The handover ceremony, held late last week, saw motorcycles distributed to Umoja Dareda Kati and Umoja Kiru Diki groups. Umoja Dareda Kati received 14m/- in loan support, while Umoja Kiru Diki secured 15m/-. The motorcycles will be used for commercial transport, offering the young beneficiaries a sustainable source of income.

DC Kaganda announced that loan repayments will commence one week after the handover. She applauded the Babati District Council for its effective revenue collection, which made the purchase possible and created new employment opportunities for young people in the district.

“This initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing commitment under the CCM manifesto to support youth through interest-free loans, unlike the commercial loans that have been a burden for many citizens,” said Kaganda.

“Our government is determined to uplift its youth. I urge you to be responsible, work hard, and use this opportunity to improve your lives and those of your families,” she added.

Kaganda emphasised the need for proper care and responsible use of the motorcycles to ensure long-term benefits, not only for the recipients but for the broader community.

She encouraged the young beneficiaries to become role models and ambassadors of change, ensuring the initiative remains sustainable and impactful for others.

One of the beneficiaries, John Paul, expressed gratitude on behalf of the group, saying the interest-free loan programme is a game-changer for many young Tanzanians.

“This support from the government is helping transform our lives. We’re grateful and committed to making the most of it,” he said.
