As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting Tanzania’s development through investment in education, Exim Bank Tanzania has officially handed over newly constructed and fully furnished classrooms to two secondary schools in Buhigwe District, Kigoma Region. Kaphunya Secondary School and Nyakitundu Secondary School each has received completed classrooms, fully equipped with desks and chairs.

The initiative aims to ease the acute shortage of infrastructure and create more conducive learning environments for students. In addition to the classrooms, the bank also donated sports equipment to both schools, further supporting the development of sports and youth wellness in the region.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony, Stanley Kafu, Head of Marketing and Communications at Exim Bank, reiterated the bank’s dedication to empowering communities through education and other development sectors.

“At Exim Bank, we believe education is the cornerstone of sustainable development. By investing in learning infrastructure, we are not only providing desks and walls—we are shaping the future of our youth and strengthening our communities. We’re also proud to support student wellness through sports, as healthy students are better learners,” said Kafu.

The donation is part of the bank’s broader corporate social responsibility program, ‘Exim Cares’, which focuses on impactful community development. Beyond education, the bank has supported the healthcare sector by donating medical equipment to hospitals and health centers, championed financial inclusion through digital banking solutions, and participated in environmental conservation efforts.

Representing the Guest of Honour, the Regional Commissioner of Kigoma, Buhigwe District Commissioner, Col. Michael Ngayalina, praised the bank’s initiative and urged other private sector players to emulate this spirit of partnership with the government.

“This generous contribution from Exim Bank reflects the positive results that emerge when the private sector joins hands with the public sector in nation-building. These classrooms will significantly improve learning conditions, reduce overcrowding, and inspire academic success among our students. We invite more stakeholders to come forward and support the government in uplifting the education sector,” said Col. Ngayalina.

Tanzania’s education sector continues to face challenges such as a shortage of classrooms, lack of science laboratories, and inadequate teaching staff—issues that directly impact learning outcomes. Schools like Kaphunya and Nyakitundu have long struggled with overcrowded classrooms, hindering students’ academic performance and comfort.

The new classrooms are expected to ease congestion and provide a more comfortable and focused environment for students to thrive academically. The donation of sports equipment will also promote physical activity and overall student well-being.

“At Exim Bank, we’re not just building structures—we’re building futures. Our commitment is to ensure that every student, regardless of where they are in Tanzania, has a fair chance to learn, grow, and realize their full potential. We’ll continue working closely with both local and national government partners to support meaningful, long-term development,” Kafu concluded.
