A total of 62,207 registered voters are expected to participate in the upcoming elections across 166 polling stations in 12 wards of the Handeni Town Council.
The Returning Officer for the Handeni Urban Constituency, Amina Waziri, has urged residents to turn out in large numbers and exercise their constitutional right to vote.
Speaking about the state of preparedness, Waziri said all logistical arrangements had been completed, noting that polling stations will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m.
She emphasised that voters will cast their ballots only at the polling stations where they are registered. She added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has established a system to ensure every eligible voter can vote efficiently and without long queues.
“The Commission is fully prepared to ensure voters cast their ballots on time and return to their daily activities without disruption. We are committed to maintaining peace, order, and efficiency throughout the voting process,” Waziri said.
She further urged residents to participate actively, saying:
“Failing to vote means failing to fulfil your constitutional duty. I urge all residents of Handeni Urban to come out in large numbers. The Commission has ensured the process will be peaceful, orderly, and transparent.”
Meanwhile, on October 18, Tanga Regional Commissioner (RC) Dr Batilda Burian met with election stakeholders at her office, including representatives from the Peace Platform, political parties, the media, and the Regional Defence and Security Committee.
During the meeting, Dr Burian appealed to citizens—especially the youth—to avoid violence or provocation during the election period. She urged them instead to vote peacefully and wait patiently for the official results.
