Police arrest four for suspected murder of high school teacher

POLICE in Geita Region have detained four suspects in connection with the murder of Cathbert Julius (42), a teacher at Magufuli High School.

Julius was brutally attacked with machetes in several parts of his body and died instantly—a criminal act under the law. The suspects include, Nyarukamo Mugasa (42), a businessman, Aron Elias (35), a farmer, Octavius Silvery (25), a Bajaj driver  Joseph (second name not mentioned, (17), a Bajaj conductor, All suspects  four live within Geita Municipal Council.

Speaking to journalists yesterday, Geita Regional Police Commander, Safia Jongo, said that on the night of 5 July, around 8:00 PM, the deceased was last seen in the Makonoro area near Kidongo Chekundu. He was transporting four pigs in a   Bajaj, registration number MC 337 DLG, en route to Geita town.

Commander Jongo explained that the vehicle suffered a mechanical fault, and it was at this time that Cathbert Julius was ambushed by a group of assailants who inflicted serious injuries.

 She added that on the morning of 6 July, around 11:00 AM, his body was found by the roadside near Kidongo Chekundu, with multiple wounds. The Bajaj and the pigs he was transporting were also recovered.

Commander Jongo confirmed that police investigations are ongoing, and all suspects will appear in court when ongoing investigation is   complete. She urged the public to cooperate fully with law enforcement officers by promptly reporting any criminal activities or suspicious behaviour in their communities.
