A Chinese envoy to the United Nations on Friday urged the international community to address the "historical injustices" faced by the Palestinian people.
Speaking ahead of the United Nations General Assembly vote on a number of resolutions relating to Palestine, Sun Lei, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, reaffirmed that China "firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights".
The statement came after China announced plans to provide $100 million in assistance to Palestine to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and support its recovery and reconstruction efforts.
"This demonstrates China's steadfast support for the Palestinian people and its commitment to upholding fairness and justice," Sun said.
The Palestinian question lies at the core of the conflict in the Middle East, he said.
"It concerns international fairness and justice and has a direct bearing on regional stability."
China has consistently called for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, urgent improvement in the humanitarian situation, and post-conflict governance and reconstruction in the territory based on the principle of "the Palestinians govern Palestine", he said.
He also called for a commitment to the two-state solution and a speedy political settlement of the Palestinian question.
Urging all member states to vote in favor of the draft resolutions, Sun said, "China will continue to work with the international community to strive tirelessly for a comprehensive, just and lasting resolution of the Palestinian question."
In total, the General Assembly adopted five resolutions related to Palestine on Friday, including humanitarian assistance for refugees, refugee property rights and the legality of settlement activities.
The General Assembly had on Tuesday adopted two resolutions calling on Israel to withdraw from all Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 as well as the Syrian Golan Heights.
Meanwhile, Qatar and Egypt called on Saturday for the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the deployment of an international stabilization force as the necessary next steps in fully implementing the Gaza ceasefire.
"Now we are at the critical moment ... A ceasefire cannot be completed unless there is a full withdrawal of the Israeli forces (and) there is stability back in Gaza," Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told the Doha Forum, an annual diplomatic conference.
Also on Saturday, Palestinian militant group Hamas said it was ready to hand over its weapons in Gaza to a Palestinian authority on the condition that the Israeli army's occupation ends.
