WITH the current outlook for globalisation and world trade in general being uncertain at best, ripples could indeed be felt in the tourism sector, as people feeling unwell in their own countries in relation to benefits or prices may alter some of their routine habits, including travel. These worries arise from large and widely felt changes in which global trade is conducted, as the United States is in the course altering some basic rules of globalisation, to focus on national economy once again. That isn’t directed at tourism but it can have such impact if the fallout leads to some strategic or cost restructuring with airlines, travel agencies etc on account of a shrinking travel clientele, etc.

Any such situation will imply greater competition to obtain a helpful chunk of the tourist travel market or at least that portion directed at African destinations, how Tanzania will be featuring in that situation. That is why remarks by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa when visiting Mkomazi National Park of late were noticeable as preliminary lessons in that direction, but whose import needs to be extended somewhat, at any rate by policy planners in the tourism division. The premier directed those handling tourism and communications regulators to work together to ensure a communication tower is built at the park, bordering Kilimanjaro and Tanga regions, as it is slack.

There was an anecdotic situation for the premier to have issued that directive, specifying that while traveling to the park, the premier was unable to maintain a phone call with President Samia Suluhu Hassan due to poor signal reception. Obviously that signalled serious problems with the facility, as a tourist can at most spend an hour or two before hurrying out to reach a place amenable for communication. Towers are vital for the facility to enhance visitations as tourists routinely need to communicate with people back home, so they will feel relaxed when they are in any park then their mobile phones care part of network coverage all the time, as otherwise the situation is inhospitable.

While the day\s event was to open a new tourist entrance gate that took 350m/- and includes offices for Immigration, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and a bank branch, the real significance of the remarks can be noticed a little further than the physical facilities and tower. It in the demand that management at Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) needs to promote Mkomazi more widely so that it gains visibility in a manner similar to the iconic Serengeti or Selous,. One reason is the park’s unique appeal, including its rare population of black rhinos, which is evidently valid but it needs to be an extra to specific reasons to visit the park as a place, like an evening park.

One feature about visitations to our tourism destinations is that they tend to be one visit instances, and after that year the tourist will go elsewhere, whereas there are countries assured of visitations by people of specific groups each year/ By implication that means they have visitors all the year round since the bona fide members of the tourist spot have different moments of annual holiday or travel time depending on what countries they come from or professions. But what they follow is specific to their culture and they find it when going to specific spots where their own people operate, thus tend to feel at home and thus go back the following year. Leasing out parks or game reserves to hotel operators, camping site agencies of various countries can uplift the competition.
