CRICKET development in Tanzania has taken another positive step as Dar es Salaam's Al-Muntazir U-17 team embarked on a special tour to Morogoro recently.

A Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) officer noted that the Dar es Salaam junior cricketers featured in a four-match series at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) ground.

Originally planned as a T20 series, the matches bringing together Al-Muntazir U-17 and Morogoro U-17 had to be adjusted due to weather and unavoidable circumstances.

The mentioned reasons, the officer revealed, led to the use of different formats, seeking to ensure the series reached fruition.

He stated that some games were played as 15-over and 10-over matches, while one tie remained a full T20 match.

Despite the changes, the tour provided an incredible opportunity for young cricketers to gain experience.

The touring junior cricketers further had an opportunity to build friendships and showcase their skills against teams from another region.

In the opening game, lasting 10 overs, Morogoro U-17 cricketers won by 36 runs.

The second tie, lasting 15 overs, had the hosts carrying on from where they left off, cruising to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over the visitors.

In the third duel, which was a full T20 clash, Morogoro U-17 once again had the upper hand and defeated Al-Muntazir U-17 cricketers by six runs.

In the fourth match, featuring 15 overs, Al-Muntazir U-17 cricketers halted their losing streak, having secured a 15-run victory over Morogoro U-17 cricketers.

With the Morogoro U-17 squad winning the series 3-1, the TCA officer pointed out that the tour was a great learning experience for both teams.

The young cricketers had the chance to compete in new conditions, foster regional cricketing ties, and enjoy the true spirit of the game.
