KILINDI Boys' cricket squad has begun its campaign in the boys' category of the 2025 National Inter-Primary Schools competitions (Umitashumta trials) in grand fashion, garnering two victories in Tanga last week.
The Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) is overseeing the Umitashumta trials involving boys and girls, with the encounters held at the Usagara ground.
Kilindi Boys clobbered Tanga Boys by 39 runs in the opening clash and, thereafter, notched a resounding 69-run defeat of Korogwe Boys.
Kudra Ramadhani and Athuman Iddi impressed with the bat as Kilindi Boys took the crease first in the opening tie and posted 101/3 in 20 overs.
The openers, Ramadhani and Iddi, put good knocks to show early on, showcasing the batting side's tenacity.
Ramadhani ended up as the cricketer with the most runs for the batting squad, notching 25 runs.
Team captain Iddi, too, ended with a worthy contribution as the cricketer scored a 30-ball 16.
Mohamed Ally, slotted in at number three, had a solid game with the bat and scored 15 runs not out.
Failure by the other batsmen to end the innings with a notable showing was hardly an obstacle for Kilindi Boys, with the squad also benefiting from 30 extras leaked by Tanga Boys.
Kilindi Boys' dominance was in view, given the youngsters were just four runs adrift of a triple-digit figure at the time their batsman Riziki Mohamed made his way back to the pavilion in the 18th over.
Needing 102 runs from 120 balls to emerge victorious, Tanga Boys played their hearts out, only to end up scoring 62/8 in 20 overs.
Middle-order batsman Jordan Dismas was so far the only cricketer to have battled to make his presence felt in what happened to be a woeful outing for Tanga Boys.
Dismas got out whilst being one run short of a two-digit figure, having been dismissed by Kilindi Boys' Nasoro Mbelwa.
Tanga Boys' top order easily crumbled, with the openers getting out for duck.
Kilindi Boys' bowling unit piled misery on the batting team, snatching the remaining top-order members' wickets in quick succession.
Tanga Boys' efforts to end the batting time with a respectable score got a boost through the 32 extras conceded by Kilindi Boys' bowling unit.
Kilindi Boys' Ramadhani and Akra Azizi had notable contributions with the ball, helping their team repel Tanga Boys' challenge.
Ramadhani had the most impressive contribution, in which the player raked up 3-12, eventually garnering a 4.00 economy rate.
Azizi was equally merciless when Kilindi Boys fielded as the youngster took 2-8, which saw the player secure a 2.67 economy rate.
Kilindi Boys stretched their dominance with a 69-run thrashing of Korogwe Boys at the same venue.
Having been presented with the opportunity to bat first, the clash's eventual winners made full use of the opportunity, having secured 115/4 in 20 overs.
With Korogwe Boys being tasked with attaining a mammoth target of 116 runs to come out victorious, the youngsters ended up being skittled for 46 runs in 14.5 overs.
Umitashumta Trials turn out to be the early stage of selecting young cricketers who will, for the first time, take part in the Umitashumta tournaments.
