SPECIALIZED K&P A cricketers have showcased their determination to emerge as serious contenders for silverware in the 2025 Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) DC League 1, hammering Caravans B by seven wickets in Dar es Salaam recently.
The Specialized K&P A cricketers, boasting an uncompromising batting unit, confidently went for a successful chase of Caravans B's score to garner their first win in the showdown.
The clash, which took place at Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club venue, witnessed the Manoj Kumar-led Caravans B bat first and amass 201/10 in 48.4 overs.
Impressive contributions by Praveen Puthanpurayil, Manoj Kumar, Salmini Yusuph, and Jaffar Kanyita played a pivotal role in Caravans B's acquisition of the triple-digit figure.
Puthanpurayil hammered six fours in his excellent batting showing, which ended with the batsman garnering 64 runs.
Kumar had Caravans B piling up runs with his 44 runs, helping the squad move to 194-7 upon his dismissal in the 45th over.
The youthful Yusuph, batting at number three, exhibited his mettle to have Caravans B pushing for a better figure, nailing 32 runs.
The equally promising Kanyita chipped in with his 15 runs, and Anand Ram and Abhijit made their way back with 11 runs apiece.
Sameera Prasanna had an excellent bowling outing, gallantly leading Specialized K&P A to successfully foil efforts by Caravans B's batting unit to amass an imposing figure.
The cricketer ended up with 5-38 and a 3.93 economy rate- whereas fellow bowler Lakshmiprasad Pyla provided more resistance for Specialized K&P A, having taken 2-46 in 10 overs.
Needing 202 runs from the allotted 50 overs to come out victorious, the Lakshmikanth Sukavasi-led Specialized K&P A put ferocious batting to show and coasted to the win having recorded 204/3 in 26.3 overs.
Gurram Brahmin, who opened the innings, spearheaded the pursuit of the successful chase, blasting an impressive 92 runs.
The cricketer's solid outing at the crease was marked by 14 boundaries and a six.
Despite experiencing a brief stint, his fellow opener Nassoro Zahoro put in impressive knocks that had the batsman garnering 26 runs.
A brief stay by Pyla (11 runs) could not frustrate Specialized K&P A's pursuit of the successful chase, thanks to a solid fourth-wicket stand by Dheeraj Lakshman Khotakoona and Chavva Bhargav Reddy, which put the tie beyond Caravans B's reach.
Khotakoona ended eight runs short of a half-century, whilst boasting the unbeaten spell, and Reddy made his way back with 17 runs not out.
Caravans B skipper Kumar's 2-38 in three overs did little to prevent the resilient Specialized K&P A batting unit from grabbing the win.
Prasanna deservedly walked away with a Player of the Match prize for his impressive five-wicket haul for the eventual winners.
Specialized K&P A, following the victory, is enjoying the driver's seat in Group A after garnering a 3.6781 Net Run Rate from the positive outcome in the opening fixture.
The Hamza Ally-led Aces B, which has equally featured in one match, boasts the 1.3636 Net Run Rate to occupy the second place.
The Mustafa Lukmanji-led Annadil Burhani is sitting third- notching the 0.3200 Net Run Rate from the victorious outcome the club secured in the only fixture honoured.
Despite taking part in two matches, Pak Stars B is holding the fourth spot with a -0.7262 Net Run Rate following loss in the two clashes.
Pak Stars B opened its account in the showdown on the wrong foot, losing to Aces B by two wickets on February 2.
The club suffered its second successive defeat- losing to Annadil Burhani by 16 runs.
Caravans B, having suffered a loss in its opening match against Specialized K&P A, languishes at the bottom with a -3.6781 Net Run Rate.
The league, which has brought together 10 teams put into groups A and B, is played in a 50-over format aiming at boosting cricket promotion in the country.
