EFFORTS by Tanzania's senior national cricketers to garner more wins in the Quad Nations T20 Cup –Arjun Menon Memorial have hit a snag, given they conceded a six-wicket loss to Bahrain in Blantyre last Thursday.
It was a second loss for Tanzania's cricketers in the showpiece, given they had earlier suffered a four-wicket loss to Germany.
Tanzania batted first in the encounter versus Bahrain and garnered 154/7 in 20 overs- mostly thanks to a solid showing by Mukesh Maker.
A breathtaking 47-ball 67 by Maker, who returned with the bat in hand, was the best batting outing when the squad took the crease.
There were further noticeable contributions by openers, Arun Yadav, who was four runs short of a half-century and Dhrumit Mehta who garnered 20 runs.
Ajith Augastin managed a relatively short stint at the crease, hammering a four and a six, as the cricketer chipped in with 10 runs.
Failure by the middle-order performers to step up denied Tanzania an opportunity to amass a more imposing score.
Bahrain's Imran Anwar led the bowling charge, posting 3-25, with fellow bowler Muhammad Rizwan battling to offer the team an edge with his 2-36.
The Ahmer Bin Nasir-led Bahrain solidly chased down Tanzania's 154/7, coming out victorious in just 16.2 overs whilst dropping four wickets and handing Tanzania the loss.
The resolute Fiaz Ahmed scored 60 runs not out and was ably backed up by Sohail Ahmed and Asif Ali in Bahrain's successful chase.
Ahmed showcased his virtuosity and secured 48 runs. Ali grabbed two fours and two sixes in his nine-ball 21.
Pacer Ally Mpeka's 2-26 were the most noticeable figures when Tanzania unsuccessfully attempted to thwart Bahrain's chase.
A Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) official noted that it was a tough result, but the focus now shifts to the final group stage match.
The TCA official called on the Tanzania cricketers to finish strongly, fighting to the end.
The two teams' previous clash had Tanzania cantering to a thrilling six-wicket win.
There was also a thrilling finish at the TCA Oval as Malawi secured their first victory in the tournament- having grabbed a dramatic eight-run win over Germany in front of an electric home crowd.
Malawi took the crease first, amassing 166/8 in 20 overs. Although Germany put up a spirited performance, they fell short given they were skittled for 158 runs in 19.5 overs.
The Quad Nations T20 Cup is, as per Cricket Malawi, hosted in memory of the association's Operations Manager Arjun Menon, who passed away recently.
Bahrain, Germany, Malawi, and Tanzania are featuring in the 10-day tournament.
The showpiece is further offering the contenders, who are International Cricket Council (ICC) Associate Member countries, a chance to regularly take part in competitive events, thereby boosting cricket development in the respective countries.
Tanzania's senior national cricket team, taking part in the competition, comprises Umar Basha, Salum Jumbe, Raymond Francis, Mukesh Maker, Mohamed Simba, Laksh Bakrania, and Khalid Amiri.
Kassim Nassoro, Dhrumit Mehta, Arun Yadav, Ally Mpeka, Ally Hafidh, Ajith Augastin, and Acrey Paschal also make the squad.
