TANZANIA's boys’ cricket team has maintained a winning run in the 2025 Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA) Games, hammering Uganda by 63 runs in Kakamega, Kenya, last Sunday.
It was a second successive victory for Tanzania Boys, given they opened their campaign in the games impressively last week, having commanded a seven-run victory over hosts Kenya Boys.
In the Sunday duel, Tanzania Boys once again demonstrated their competence with bat and ball, solidly taming Uganda Boys and making their plan to shine in the showdown known.
Uganda Boys chose to field, having won the toss, and their efforts, ultimately, could not foil Tanzania Boys' efforts to secure a big total after the latter secured an impressive 144/4 in the scheduled 20 overs.
Benjamin Madede, who came on at number three, orchestrated Tanzania Boys' successful plan to amass an imposing score, nailing an unbeaten 60 runs.
His impressive stint at the crease came after his team had suffered a slight setback following an early dismissal of opener Ramadhan Swedy, who ended four runs short of a two-digit figure.
Earlier on, Swedy's opening batting partner, Wingu Muhammed, had chipped in with 10 runs in his equally brief stay.
Madede forged an unbeaten stand with Baraka Mkoyi, who scored 17 runs not out, and propelled Tanzania Boys to a commanding spot in the clash, with other batsmen, Kanavalo Julius Stephen and Zawadi Lucas Mahelela, also chipping in with two digits.
Stephen secured 21 runs at a strike rate of 67.74, and Mahelela made his way back with 11 runs at a strike rate of 137.50.
Irvine Ashaba was Uganda Boys' only cricketer who managed to pose a threat to Tanzania Boys, when the former fielded, posting 2-18 in his four overs.
Chasing an imposing figure notched by Tanzania Boys eventually ended up as a tall order for Uganda Boys, given that the latter were in response skittled for 81 runs in overs.
Opener Ignitious Mwesiga was the batsman with the most runs in the fruitless chase, posting 28 runs, and fellow batsmen Enock Kwizera, Brian Arvatunga, and Hillary Nimusiima notched encouraging figures for the side.
Kwizera made his way back with bat in hand, having garnered 13 runs not out, and Arvatunga notched 11 runs as the team battled to impose itself in the innings but in vain.
Ally Rajabu Msemo had the Tanzania Boys' bowling unit successfully contain Uganda Boys, having garnered impressive figures of 5-13 in four overs.
Fellow bowler, Derick Hamis Julius, offered a solid backup for Msemo, given that the former ended his four-over quota with 2-19 for the eventual winners.
Msemo ultimately walked away with the Player of the Match award for his stellar bowling performance, which was pivotal to Tanzania Boys' victory.
Tanzania Girls were also all smiles after getting their campaign underway impressively, having emerged victorious in two consecutive ties.
In the girls' category's opening clash, Tanzania Girls commanded a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Uganda Girls.
Having been presented with the opportunity to start batting, Uganda Girls completed their innings with a mere 75 runs for five wickets.
Needing 76 runs to secure a victory, Tanzania Girls did not want to waste time after notching 76/3 in just 14.3 overs.
Tanzania Girls, then, picked up from where they left off, garnering a three-wicket thrashing of the same opponents, Uganda Girls, in a duel which saw the latter opting to bat first and manage to notch 77/9 in 20 overs.
Even though they experienced stiff opposition, Tanzania Girls successfully chased the opponents' modest total for seven wickets in 16.4 overs.
