ALL roads lead to New Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar tomorrow as Simba SC prepare for one of the most defining matches in their history—a second-leg final of the CAF Confederation Cup against Morocco’s RS Berkane.
With anticipation reaching fever pitch among fans and football lovers across Tanzania and Africa, Simba head coach Fadlu David has acknowledged the quality of their opponents but insists the outcome will be decided within the 90 minutes on home soil.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference today, Fadlu said the team’s preparations are complete and that the players are well aware of the enormous responsibility they carry.
“Although we had hoped to play this match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, we still have every chance to achieve a positive result here at New Amaan,” he said. “I thank Simba fans for their incredible support—this is a crucial match and we have 90 minutes to turn things around at home.”
Fadlu added that tomorrow's game plan differs significantly from the first leg, noting that all weaknesses have been addressed and the team is ready.
“We have a clear strategy. It will be a tough, high-stakes match—and our opponents know it too. I hope fans will cheer us on from start to finish to inspire the players. This is a historic night,” he said.
While he doesn’t foresee major changes to the starting eleven, Fadlu chose not to reveal any tactical details.
“I trust my players to deliver what the fans are waiting for. We may be trailing by two goals, but there are still 90 minutes to play. We’ll give it everything to get a good result and, if possible, lift the trophy,” he said.
Vice-captain and right-back Shomari Kapombe, speaking on behalf of the squad, said the players are fully focused on the task ahead.
“This is only Simba’s second continental final after 1993. Most of us weren’t there then, but we won’t allow history to repeat itself. From the first minute to the last whistle, we will fight—every player is fired up for this one,” said Kapombe.
He added that the team has been pushing each other in training and in camp to give their absolute best in tomorrow's showdown.
Meanwhile, RS Berkane head coach Mouin Chaban said he respects Simba’s strength at home but is confident his players are both mentally and physically prepared to finish the job.
“We’re leading by two goals, but the mission isn’t over yet. My players are ready—we’re here to complete what we started in the first leg,” said Chaban.
To become the first Tanzanian club to lift a continental trophy, Simba need at least a 3-0 victory tonight.
Ahmed Issues Sabotage Warning
Simba’s Communications Manager Ahmed Ally has issued a stern warning against any attempts to undermine the club in tonight’s match.
“We’re starting to see signs of sabotage—let me be clear, we won’t let it slide. This is a historic moment for Simba. We want to make history, we want to be the first. Our players are fully committed,” he said.
He added that if the team secures the title, they will have fulfilled their promise to the players, with any additional trophies this season being a bonus.
Amaan Stadium Comes Alive
As of yesterday, New Amaan Stadium was a hive of activity, with workers busy putting up banners and preparing the venue for what promises to be a night of drama, passion, and potentially history in the making.
