PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has called on the Ethics Secretariat to intensify its oversight of ethical conduct among public servants, warning that a lack of patriotism and discipline is eroding the integrity of Tanzania’s civil service.
Speaking at State House in Dar es Salaam today May 24, 2025 during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed officials, President Samia expressed concern over incidents where some public servants have gone as far as taking photos of classified documents and leaking them—acts she described as deeply unpatriotic and unethical.
“Our values are deteriorating. Today, we have public servants who lack patriotism—who are bold enough to take confidential information, photograph it with their phones, and leak it,” she said.
The Head of State added: “They may think they’re hurting the President or someone else, but in reality, they’re simply showing a lack of ethics and accountability to their nation.”
President Samia emphasized that such actions reflect a broader issue of indiscipline within the public sector, urging the Ethics Secretariat to help instill discipline and a renewed sense of national responsibility.
“Public service is the engine that drives this country. We need your support in enforcing discipline and restoring values that ensure our nation is served with integrity and patriotism,” she added.
