Airtel Money Tanzania, in partnership with Mastercard powered by Network International, is excited to reintroduce its virtual payment card dubbed Airtel Money Global Pay, a secure and seamless digital payment solution made for today’s borderless lifestyle.

The virtual card Airtel Money Global Pay is exclusively available through Airtel Money application MyAirtel App. The Airtel Money Global Pay enables Tanzanians to make payments across global platforms, whether for shopping, studying, traveling, or enjoying entertainment right from their mobile phones. Airtel Money Global Pay is an innovative card that reflects Airtel’s ongoing commitment to digital convenience, safety, and financial inclusion.

Officiating the reintroduction of Airtel Money Global Pay, Airtel Money Board Chairman, Mr. Adolf Kasegenya, explained that the Airtel Money Global Pay directly supports Government borderless agenda to modernize national payment infrastructure, reduce reliance on cash, and enable safe participation in global digital commerce.

“The integration of Mastercard’s global payment network within the Airtel Money ecosystem represents a significant step forward in enhancing Tanzania’s digital financial infrastructure. Airtel Money Global Pay innovation aligns with the Bank of Tanzania’s strategic priorities around payment system modernization, financial inclusion, and cross-border interoperability. Airtel Money Global Pay addresses key accessible points in international transactions while promoting secure, regulated access to the global digital economy for both banked and unbanked populations,” he stressed.

Speaking to the Journalists during the launch at Johari Rotana, the Airtel Money Director, Andrew Rugamba, emphasized the significance of the Airtel Money Global Pay in broadening access to international digital payments for Tanzanian consumers.

“We have made it easier than ever for our customers to access international payments from Tanzania with no bank account needed. Simply download the MyAirtel App, activate Global Pay, top up, and start shopping, streaming, or subscribing globally with peace of mind,” he remarked. 

Rugamba added, “Airtel Money Global Pay, is more than a virtual card. Airtel Money Global Pay is a passport to global commerce and entertainment, accessible right from your phone at the comfort of your home. Tanzanians who shop, study, game or do business online have long run into several pain-points with global transactions including: Limited access to internationally accepted cards, foreign-currency and exchange-rate uncertainty, high transfer and gateway fees, security & fraud anxiety and merchant acceptance gaps where many global platforms don’t accept local payment rails like mobile money, forcing users to borrow friends’ cards or turn to informal middlemen.

The rebrand from Airtel Mastercard to Airtel Money Global Pay comes with exciting new features designed to enhance user experience and security.
