SINGIDA Black Stars forward Jonathan Sowah continued his red-hot form in front of goal after netting a brace to guide his team to a convincing 3-0 home victory over Tabora United at the Liti Stadium in Singida.
The result not only strengthened Singida Black Stars’ top-four ambitions but also brought Sowah (pictured) within touching distance of the Mainland Premier League’s top scorers, Prince Dube and Jean Charles Ahoua.
The Ghanaian striker’s two goals, scored in the 52nd and 86th minutes, raised his season tally to 11 goals just one behind the joint leaders Dube and Ahoua, who each have 12.
Sowah’s lethal finishing and increasing influence in the league have placed him firmly in the spotlight, with growing interest from top-tier clubs seeking his signature ahead of next season.
Sowah opened his account in from the penalty spot after Tabora United defender Banele Junior fouled Iddi Habibu ‘Gego’ inside the area.
Referee Ramadhan Kayoko didn’t hesitate to point to the spot, and Sowah calmly converted to double Singida Black Stars’ lead.
He completed his brace with a well-taken finish, receiving a precise pass from midfield maestro Marouf Tchakei before sending a powerful low shot into the net.
It was the third and final goal of the day, sealing a dominant performance from the home side.
Earlier in the match, Nigerien international Victorien Adebayor had opened the scoring for Singida Black Stars in the 21st minute, giving the team an early advantage and setting the tone for what would become a comfortable win.
Speaking after the match, Sowah credited his teammates and the technical bench for his success so far this season.
“First, I want to thank the coaching staff and my teammates because without them, I wouldn’t have reached this level,” Sowah said.
“Scoring goals is something I enjoy, and I do it for the team. I’m happy every time I hit the back of the net, and when I don’t score, I honestly feel uneasy.
“I never imagined I’d be this happy working here at Singida Black Stars because of the strong support I receive from the management, technical bench, and my teammates. I believe we will achieve our goals together,” he said.
This is Sowah’s debut season in the Tanzanian Premier League, and he has already made a name for himself among the top scorers earning headlines and attracting interest from major clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Sunday’s victory was crucial for Singida Black Stars in their quest for continental football. The win lifted them to 53 points and cemented their position in fourth place on the league table.
Tabora United, their direct rival in the race for a top-four finish, now sit in fifth place following the defeat.
Singida Black Stars are now just one point behind third-placed Azam FC, who have 54 points, making the battle for a top-three finish and a spot in next season’s CAF interclub competitions intensely competitive.
With three league matches remaining, Singida Black Stars are determined to hold onto or improve their position.
Their upcoming fixtures include two away matches against Simba and Dodoma Jiji FC, followed by a home clash against Tanzania Prisons. Each game will be critical as they push for a historic CAF qualification.
Sowah’s contribution has been pivotal in Singida’s strong season, and his consistent performances are quickly turning him into one of the league’s most feared strikers.
If his goal-scoring form continues, he could very well finish as the league’s top scorer an incredible feat for a player in his first season in Tanzanian football.
For now, Singida Black Stars fans will hope their star striker can maintain his momentum and fire the team to a top-three finish.
With his eye for goal, team spirit, and hunger to succeed, Sowah is not just chasing the Golden Boot he’s becoming a symbol of Singida Black Stars’ ambitions on the big stage.
