TANZANIA'S national soccer team coach, Hemed ‘Morocco’ Suleiman, is using the Taifa Stars' past encounters with Morocco to build momentum and confidence ahead of their crucial World Cup 2026 qualification match on March 26 in Oujda.
The Taifa Stars are undergoing intensive training at Mkwakwani Stadium as they prepare for their final training camp and the decisive match in Morocco.
Despite setbacks such as missing key players -goalkeeper Aishi Manula, who has had limited playing time at Simba, and injured captain Mbwana Samatta - the coach remains optimistic.
Suleiman (pictured) reports that his players are quickly adapting to his tactical approach and are highly motivated to face the formidable Moroccan side.
While acknowledging Tanzania’s recent 3-0 loss to Morocco in the CAF AFCON tournament and their historical record of one win and five losses in six encounters, he believes these experiences provide valuable preparation for the upcoming match.
Taifa Stars currently sit third in Group E of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers with six points from three matches.
Morocco leads the group with a perfect nine points. Niger, also on six points, holds second place due to a superior goal difference of +3 (5-2), compared to Taifa Stars' 0 (2-2).
Zambia is fourth with three points, while Congo Brazzaville is suspended, and Eritrea has withdrawn from the competition.
A victory against Morocco, one of Africa’s football powerhouses, would be a significant boost to Taifa Stars’ qualification ambitions, substantially improving their chances of advancing.
“The players’ progress in training is truly encouraging. Their high morale during these sessions in Tanga is remarkable. Our focus is clear: to achieve positive results against Morocco. Training has been intense, and we are committed to this goal," said coach Suleiman.
"Our recent history with Morocco, including our AFCON encounter, has fuelled the players’ desire to prove themselves. They want to show they can compete with one of Africa’s and the world’s best teams. We must stay true to our principles and maintain rigorous training.
"We have analyzed past game footage to identify areas for improvement. This self-assessment is crucial for us to perform at our peak. Additionally, we are studying our opponents’ strategies to better prepare for the match."
The upcoming clash against a dominant Moroccan squad will be a fiercely competitive test for Taifa Stars, requiring peak performance and strategic discipline.
To challenge Morocco’s European-based stars, Tanzania must demonstrate exceptional resilience.
Coach Suleiman is expected to emphasize a robust defensive strategy while ensuring his players capitalize on scoring opportunities.
This encounter will serve as a true measure of Tanzania’s determination and ability to keep their World Cup aspirations alive.
