Thrilling season ends with Yanga victorious and honored

YOUNG Africans (Yanga), crowned champions of the 2024/2025 NBC Premier League, were presented with the championship trophy on Wednesday by the principal sponsor of the league following their decisive win over arch-rivals Simba SC.

In this classic showdown, Young Africans sealed their title with a commanding 2-0 victory, confirming their supremacy and formally receiving the trophy from the league's principal sponsor.

The occasion was graced by the First Vice President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Athuman Nyamlani, alongside the bank’s Managing Director, Theobald Sabi. Thousands of passionate football fans filled the stands to witness the thrilling action and championship celebration.

Speaking at the event, Sabi congratulated not only the champions but also all clubs that participated in the league. He praised the continued growth of football in Tanzania and noted the increasing level of competition witnessed in recent seasons.

“Since we began supporting this league, we’ve seen remarkable progress and thrilling contests across all teams,” he said. “This vibrant rivalry has not only elevated the quality of football but also delivered consistent, high-level entertainment. Every club has shown determination and a commitment to excellence, which is incredibly rewarding for us as partners in this journey.”

As the season concluded, Sabi reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to deepening its involvement in the league’s development. He emphasized the importance of competition in driving sports growth and promised increased support in the coming season.

“We are committed to fostering positive transformation and creating broad opportunities for all league stakeholders,” he stressed.

He also highlighted several key focus areas moving forward: enhanced training and player development, especially at the youth level; comprehensive health insurance coverage for players; and customized banking services tailored for athletes.

“This strategic approach aims to empower players economically through financial education and support, contributing to both their professional careers and personal development,” Sabi added.

In support of the final event, the bank arranged special transportation for its officials and select clients in Dar es Salaam to attend the match live. Additionally, viewing zones equipped with large screens were set up across the city and in other regions, enabling more fans to enjoy the matchday experience.
