YOUNG Africans’ head coach, Hamdi Miloud, has expressed his optimism ahead of their Mainland Premier League clash against Simba SC, set to take place today at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Young Africans currently lead the league table with 58 points from 22 matches, having won 19, drawn one and lost two.
They are followed closely by Simba who are currently second on the table with 54 points, having played 21 matches, winning 17, drawing three and losing one.
Speaking about the highly anticipated Dar Derby, Miloud (pictured) said he is thrilled to be part of such a prestigious match.
"It is a great honour to be part of one of the best derbies in Africa. I am privileged to be among the coaches who have had the opportunity to participate in this top-class derby. I also want to thank Young Africans for trusting me to be part of this great club that is fighting for success," he said.
Miloud is confident that his team is well-prepared to handle the pressure of the derby, emphasizing that their training sessions have been extensive and thorough.
"We have done enough preparations to withstand the pressure of the derby. We have no doubts about our readiness; all that remains is to execute what we have practiced on the training ground. We have great respect for our opponents, but the truth is, we are a strong team," he said.
He also said he expects a tactically intense and open match, as both teams are determined to win.
"I anticipate a highly tactical game because both teams are strong and eager to win. I believe it will be an open match since both sides have confidence in their abilities. We are fully prepared and in great shape for the game."
Miloud confirmed that all players are fit and ready except for Stephane Aziz Ki, who has been struggling with a back injury.
"All players are in good shape for the match. The only concern is Aziz Ki, who has had back issues. I can’t say for sure if he will play; it’s a 50/50 situation. By tomorrow, I should have a definite answer."
He also noted that this is not his first derby experience, recalling that he has previously coached in a derby with nearly 120,000 fans in attendance, so he is not feeling pressure.
"I have been in a derby with around 120,000 fans before, so I don’t feel pressured. I respect my opponents, but I am just waiting for a great and entertaining match. Fans should come to enjoy the game without unnecessary pressure."
Speaking on behalf of his teammates, assistant captain and defender Dickson Job assured that the squad is well-prepared and understands the importance of securing all three points.
"We are all ready for the game. We understand the importance of winning these three points, and we have prepared accordingly. We know it will be a tough match."
He acknowledged Simba’s quality players and the need for his team to be extra cautious and focused.
"We know they have good players, so we must be careful and play with great discipline."
Job also emphasized the team’s adaptability, highlighting how they have adjusted to different coaching styles over time.
"Players are like soldiers; we must always adapt to different situations. Several coaches have come and gone, and we have successfully adjusted our tactics to meet their expectations.
"The good thing is that we have very talented players who can quickly grasp any coach’s instructions and execute them without hesitation," he concluded.
