YOUNG Africans Sports Club (Yanga) have finalized a two-year contract extension with their versatile Congolese midfielder, Maxi Nzengeli, bringing an end to swirling rumors about his future at the club.
Sources within the club have confirmed that the deal was quietly completed in May 2025, with Nzengeli (pictured) pledging his commitment to the reigning Mainland Premier League champions until 2027.
This development comes in response to speculation circulating on various social media platforms suggesting uncertainty over the player’s future. However, a reliable source from Young Africans’ leadership dismissed the reports as baseless, branding them as mere propaganda.
"The information that has been circulating on social media is nothing but propaganda. Those spreading it know their motives, but the truth is that Maxi has already signed a new two-year contract," the insider revealed.
Nzengeli has become a key figure in Young Africans recent success since joining the club. Known for his versatility, he has featured effectively across multiple positions - as a midfielder, winger, and even a full-back when needed.
His adaptability and work ethic have made him one of the most dependable players in the squad, endearing him to both fans and technical staff.
During his two seasons at the club, Nzengeli has played an instrumental role in helping Young Africans secure back-to-back Mainland Premier League titles, triumph in the Federation Cup (FA Cup), and a historic run to the quarter-finals of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.
His consistent performances have not only showcased his individual brilliance, but have also underscored his value as a team player capable of delivering at the highest level.
In light of his impact, Young Africans’ decision to secure his services for two more years highlights the club’s commitment to continuity and long-term planning. The move aligns with the management’s broader vision of building a strong and competitive squad that can continue to dominate locally and make deeper runs in continental competitions.
Nzengeli is not the only player to have committed his future to the Jangwani Street-based club. The club has also successfully renewed contracts for other key players whose deals were nearing expiration. Among them are influential Ivorian attacker Pacome Zouzoua, reliable central defender Dickson Job, and midfield maestro Mudathir Yahya.
The extension of contracts for these players is part of Young Africans’ comprehensive strategy to maintain squad stability while enhancing competitiveness for the upcoming season. The club believes that keeping its core group of experienced and high-performing players intact will be crucial in sustaining its recent success and in preparing for another campaign in the CAF Champions League.
Young Africans technical bench, led by Head Coach Miloud Hamdi, has been closely involved in advising the management on player retention and recruitment.
The focus remains on preserving the team’s identity, strengthening weak areas, and fostering a winning mentality that reflects Young Africans’ stature as one of East Africa’s most decorated clubs.
As preparations for the new season continue, the club is expected to announce additional contract extensions and new signings. However, the renewal of Nzengeli’s contract has already sent a strong message that Young Africans are serious about its ambitions - both domestically and on the continental stage.
