DR. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), has concluded a high-profile visit to Dodoma, where he lauded the significant progress achieved on two landmark infrastructure projects.

Both initiatives, crucial for Tanzania's economic transformation, are being constructed by Chinese companies with substantial financial backing from the AfDB, showcasing a robust partnership geared towards sustainable development across the continent.

Adesina's inspection tour of these AfDB-financed ventures was conducted alongside Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, underscoring the deep collaborative spirit between the bank and the Tanzanian government. His visit highlighted the AfDB's strategic focus on investing in critical infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth, regional integration, and improved livelihoods in Africa.

The first stop on the rigorous inspection itinerary was the Msalato International Airport, a flagship development poised to dramatically enhance Tanzania's air connectivity. This sprawling aviation hub, spanning an impressive 4,500 hectares, is being meticulously constructed by a consortium of Chinese firms under the vigilant supervision of the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) and the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA). Once completed, Msalato is projected to become the country's second-largest airport after Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), with an anticipated capacity to handle up to 1.5 million passengers annually.

Dr. Adesina described the Msalato International Airport as a strategic investment fundamentally designed to boost Tanzania's trade and tourism sectors, while also actively promoting regional integration within East Africa. The airport's development is seen as a cornerstone in Dodoma's evolution into a fully functional and accessible capital city, facilitating easier access for government officials, business travelers, and tourists alike. Beyond its direct operational benefits, the project has already created substantial employment opportunities for local communities during its construction phase, providing valuable skills transfer and economic empowerment. Its future role in facilitating cargo transport is also expected to significantly impact trade logistics, positioning Dodoma as a key logistical node in the heart of Tanzania.

Following the airport inspection, Dr. Adesina proceeded to the Dodoma City outer ring road project. This colossal undertaking involves the construction of a 112.3-kilometer dual carriageway, a vital piece of urban infrastructure being jointly built by AVIC International Project Engineering Company and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.

This ambitious ring road is designed to ease traffic congestion within Dodoma city, facilitate smoother movement of goods and people, and support the rapid urban development plans for the new capital. Its dual carriageway design promises enhanced safety and efficiency for commuters and commercial transport, significantly cutting down travel times and operational costs for businesses.

Addressing a vibrant public rally in Nala, on the outskirts of Dodoma, Dr. Adesina articulated his profound satisfaction, describing both the Msalato International Airport and the Dodoma City Outer Ring Road as "transformational developments." He emphasized their potential to significantly enhance both domestic and international connectivity through the provision of reliable and resilient infrastructure.

His remarks underscored the AfDB's long-standing commitment to partnering with African nations to unlock their economic potential, reiterating the bank's belief that robust infrastructure is not merely a convenience but a fundamental prerequisite for sustained growth and prosperity.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan, in turn, expressed her profound appreciation to the African Development Bank for its unwavering support in these landmark projects. She emphasized their immense potential to significantly boost Tanzania's economic growth, stimulate trade, and further invigorate the nation's burgeoning tourism sector. President Samia highlighted that these projects align seamlessly with Tanzania's National Development Vision, particularly in fostering a more competitive and industrialized economy. The positive impact on job creation, improved quality of life for citizens through enhanced connectivity, and the integration of regional economies were key themes in her acknowledgment of the AfDB's crucial role.

The collaboration between Tanzania, the AfDB, and Chinese construction firms on these projects serves as a compelling model for large-scale infrastructure development across Africa. It signifies a shared vision for a continent where modern, efficient infrastructure acts as the backbone for accelerated economic progress. As Dodoma continues its journey as Tanzania's new administrative capital, these strategic investments are poised to solidify its position, promising a future of enhanced connectivity, increased trade, and a more robust and resilient national economy.
