YOUNG Africans have resumed intensive training with their non-national team players as they prepare for a friendly match against Singida Black Stars, set for tomorrow at Airtel Stadium in Singida.
This match will mark the official inauguration of Singida Black Stars' new 7,000-capacity stadium at Mtipa, in Singida.
Previously, the team played at Liti Stadium, but with this transition to their modern facility, they join KMC and Azam as clubs with their own stadiums - a move aimed at boosting football development in the region.
Young Africans have asserted dominance over Singida Black Stars this season, securing victories in both league meetings: a 1-0 win in the first round and a 2-1 triumph in the second round.
Young Africans’ media and communication officer, Ali Kamwe (pictured), confirmed the team’s departure today for the friendly, emphasizing the importance of the match in providing valuable game time for players who are not on international duty.
This encounter is also a crucial warm-up ahead of Young Africans’ return to competitive action in the Federation Cup against Songea United on March 26.
They will then resume their Mainland Premier League campaign on April 1 with a match against Tabora United at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium.
Given their demanding schedule, balancing league and cup commitments, these friendlies play a key role in keeping the squad fit and match-ready.
Coach Hamdi Miloud is using the opportunity to fine-tune his squad, ensuring they maintain peak performance for upcoming challenges.
"We're pleased to have this friendly scheduled. It’s essential for keeping our players in shape and maintaining their competitive edge while our international players are away. This match will be a significant boost for our upcoming games in the Federation Cup and league," said Kamwe.
"This will be our first match in Singida this season, following our earlier game in Zanzibar. It’s a great chance for our fans to see the team in action. The players are training hard, and we’re determined to be the first team to win at Airtel Stadium."
With limited squad rotation throughout the season, this friendly presents a valuable opportunity for coach Miloud to assess players who haven’t seen significant league minutes. The lower-pressure environment allows him to gain insights into their capabilities.
Notably, key players such as Djigui Diarra, Dickson Job, Ibrahim Hamad, Clement Mzize, Khalid Aucho, Kennedy Musonda, and Prince Dube are currently away on international duty.
Although Young Africans and Singida Black Stars have different season objectives, this friendly serves a crucial purpose for both clubs in maintaining player fitness during the international break.
Young Africans are focused on securing the Mainland Premier League title, while Singida Black Stars are battling for a top-four finish.
The current league standings see Young Africans leading with 58 points, closely followed by Simba with 57 points (after 22 games). Azam FC occupy third place with 48 points, while Singida Black Stars sit fourth with 44 points, both having played 23 games.
