LEAGUE leaders Young Africans (Yanga) travel to the Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium in Manyara today to face a struggling Fountain Gate side in the Mainland Premier League, aiming to maintain their firm grip on the title race.

While Young Africans sit comfortably at the summit, Fountain Gate find themselves precariously positioned in 10th place, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

The hosts enter the clash in poor form, winless in their last three outings. A 1-1 draw against Pamba Jiji followed damaging 3-0 defeats to Singida Black Stars and Mashujaa.

Their struggles in the 2024/25 season are evident, having secured only eight league wins, with just two coming since the turn of the year. 

Defensive frailties are a major concern, having conceded 42 goals – the second-highest tally in the league. This porous defence now faces the daunting task of containing the Premier League's most potent attack.

Contrastingly, Young Africans are flying high. Fresh off a crucial 2-1 victory against title rivals Azam, they hold a ten-point advantage over second-placed Simba, although they have played three more matches. 

Their form underscores their championship credentials, boasting an impressive 22-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, which includes 19 victories.

Young Africans’ offensive statistics are remarkable, leading the league with 64 goals scored. They have found the net at least twice in 13 of their last 15 league fixtures, highlighting their consistent threat. 

The reverse fixture in December ended in a commanding 5-0 home win for Young Africans, further illustrating the gulf between the sides.

 Despite being without the injured trio of holding midfielder Khalid Aucho, attacking midfielder Pacome Zouzoua, and right full-back Yao Atohola, coach Miloud Hamdi has ample cover. 

Abubakar Salum is expected to deputise for Aucho in midfield alongside Duke Abuya.

The attacking trident of Clement Mzize, Prince Dube, and Stephen Azizi Ki, all enjoying prolific campaigns, will look to exploit Fountain Gate's defensive weaknesses and push Young Africans closer to the title.
