ATHLETICS Tanzania (AT) has announced that its general elections will be held on July 18, 2025, in Mwanza.

AT’s Acting Secretary General, Jackson Ndaweka, said the elections  - initially scheduled for earlier this year but postponed following government guidance  - are now officially back on the calendar.

Ndaweka revealed that nomination forms for all positions, including President, Vice President, Special Seats for Women, and Executive Committee Members, will be available starting today. Forms can be collected at the AT offices, via email, or through SMS.

“This is an opportunity for qualified individuals who genuinely care about the development of athletics in Tanzania to come forward and contest for leadership roles,” Ndaweka stated. “We encourage all eligible stakeholders to participate. The deadline for collecting nomination forms is July 16.”

The available positions include:

  • One position each for Chairperson and Vice Chairperson
  • Four positions for Special Seats (Women)
  • Four positions for Executive Committee Members

Ndaweka added that the nomination form fees are as follows:

  • 500,000/- for the positions of President and Vice President
  • 200,000/- for Special Seat and Executive Member positions
All payments must be made through the official AT bank account.

According to the AT constitution, Executive Committee members are mandated to oversee and guide the association’s activities.

The current AT leadership, headed by Silasi Isangi, was elected in 2020.

Despite Tanzania’s promising performance in athletics on the international stage, there have been growing calls for improved support systems and prioritization of athlete welfare - something stakeholders hope will be a central focus of the incoming leadership.
