GOLF enthusiasts in Dar es Salaam will witness a pulsating scenario given golfers from all over Tanzania are slated to feature in the 2025 Waitara Trophy tournament at the Lugalo Golf Club tomorrow.
The showdown targets to honour the club's founder, retired General George Waitara.
Golfers from all of the country's clubs, which have been invited and confirmed to participate, according to the club's chairman Michael Luwongo, will battle it out in the showdown which takes place annually.
Luwongo said golf followers are set to witness a unique scenario in this season's showdown because the club has always been working hard to improve the tournament.
He disclosed that the tournament's improvements are enjoying the backing of the reputed financial institution.
"We therefore expect that everything about the showdown, ranging from preparations to organization, should have a unique appeal," he revealed.
He pointed out that there has been a huge response in the domestic golfers' readiness for this season's tournament.
Luwongo said it is, for that matter, expected that a huge number of golfers will turn up for the tournament, given the organizers have been improving it.
He noted many golfers have been registering for the showdown, involving amateur contenders battling it out in divisions A, B, C, Juniors, Ladies and Seniors.
"We had feared that the greens would be dry and make it difficult for the participants to smoothly exhibit their potential, given there had been a dry spell. But with the rains, we have had in the past few days, I'm confident the course and the weather will be in a good condition," Luwongo stated.
Lugalo Golf Club's skipper, Japhet Masai, said the Waitara Trophy 2025 is a net tournament, and awards will be handed over to winners in all categories.
There will, according to him, further be prizes for winners of the nearest to the pin, longest drive and hole-in-one, adding the smartest golfer will moreover get an award.
Masai further revealed that the Waitara Trophy draw was expected to be out later yesterday, informing golfers of their respective playing partners and time for taking the course.
The Lugalo Golf Club chairman further noted that hosting the Waitara Trophy showdown aims at protecting the club's history.
Luwongo stated age is catching up on a good number of the club's golfers, and, for that matter, the club felt it was important for it to protect the facility's history so the next generation would appreciate the efforts.
