CCM Presidential Candidate President Samia Suluhu Hassan has pledged to transform Mtwara Region and the wider southern zone into a vibrant business hub that will uplift lives and livelihoods through massive infrastructure, agricultural and social sector investments.
Addressing a rally in Masasi District today, Samia said her government, if re-elected, will continue rolling out programmes that prioritise the welfare of ordinary citizens while creating opportunities for growth and prosperity.
She cited subsidised farm inputs as one of the key interventions that had already boosted agricultural productivity and trade in the region.
“This initiative will continue for years to come,” she assured, adding that construction of new irrigation schemes, including dams and wells, will enable farmers to cultivate year-round and increase their household incomes.
On infrastructure, Samia revealed that a major power transmission line will be built from Ruvuma to Masasi, which will stabilise electricity supply and support the establishment of new factories within planned industrial zones. She also announced that road and bridge projects, both at tarmac and gravel level, are in the pipeline to enhance connectivity within the region.
The CCM flagbearer further promised improved access to clean and safe water through implementation of new water supply projects, alongside significant investments in health and education sectors.
Highlighting broader economic integration, Samia unveiled plans for a modern railway line from Mtwara to Mbambabay in Ruvuma, linking the Mtwara Port to Lake Nyasa. She said the railway will spur trade, attract investment, and position the southern corridor as a strategic development hub.
In addition, she pledged to support small-scale traders (machinga) through the construction of modern markets, noting that CCM’s role was to serve the people and protect human dignity.
“Over the past five years, the CCM government has done a lot to bring development, but the work must continue. Our focus is to transform every household through tangible projects that touch lives directly,” she said.
CCM Secretary General Dr Asha-Rose Migiro, who accompanied the candidate, urged Masasi residents to turn out in large numbers on election day, stressing that Samia had prioritised human dignity in every development initiative.
Masasi Urban parliamentary aspirant Leonard Akwilapo also expressed gratitude for the implementation of CCM’s manifesto in the district, particularly in agriculture.
He said a total of 105bn/- has already been invested in farm inputs to raise productivity and incomes.
