ACT-Wazalendo National Chairman Othman Masoud Othman announced yesterday the successful completion of the party's internal primary election process across all constituencies in Zanzibar. This crucial step involved selecting candidates for councillor, representative and parliamentary positions, paving the way for the party's upcoming internal meetings where final official endorsements will be made.

Othman, who also serves as the First Vice President of Zanzibar, addressed candidates and leaders from all branches, constituencies, and regions of Unguja. He highlighted the primaries' success in identifying hopefuls who will seek the party's approval to represent ACT-Wazalendo in the General Election scheduled for October this year.

"The meeting, expected to take place early next month, will strictly adhere to the party's constitution, laws, and procedures," he stated, emphasizing a commitment to effective and fair candidate selection. He underscored that no candidate would be favoured, urging party members to wholeheartedly accept the endorsed individuals and foster unity to ensure ACT-Wazalendo victory.

Despite minor challenges, Othman hailed the outcome as a significant achievement and a testament to the party's maturity. He also commended all members, particularly women, for their enthusiastic participation in seeking and contesting various positions, noting their strong efforts and enthusiasm towards achieving the party's 50/50 gender representation goal.

Ismail Jussa Ladhu, the party's Vice Chairman for Zanzibar, clarified that the primary process is not about personal gain but rather about achieving excellent representation for the party.

He stressed that the selected delegates would effectively represent the party in defending and protecting Zanzibar's interests, aligning with the principles established by the party's founders. Ladhu urged members and leaders to strive for unity, honouring the founders who dedicated themselves to Zanzibar's welfare.

Omar Ali Shehe, Deputy Secretary-General of the party in Zanzibar, praised the impressive turnout of 606 members who expressed interest in the positions—226 from Unguja and 380 from Pemba—demonstrating significant enthusiasm among the members.

He advised members and leaders to prepare to welcome any candidate nominated by the party to foster strong cooperation following the party's General Meeting, scheduled for August 6th.
