The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) is set to hold a Special General Meeting virtually tomorrow, July 26, 2025, with the main agenda being minor amendments to the party’s constitution.
Speaking in Dodoma today, July 25, CCM’s Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Amos Makala, confirmed the meeting and addressed public concerns raised on social media regarding its purpose.
“There’s been a lot of speculation online about this meeting. Let me clarify—the sole agenda is minor constitutional amendments, which can only be approved by the General Meeting,” Makala explained.
He emphasized that such changes cannot be effected by the Central Committee, National Executive Committee, or Secretariat, but only by the General Meeting, as stipulated in the party’s constitution.
Makala further noted that CCM is permitted by its constitution to hold special general meetings virtually when necessary, and preparations for the session are complete.
“For the first time, the public will witness our party holding a general meeting virtually. Preparations are 100% complete—districts and regions are ready, and the Secretariat is finalizing arrangements,” he added.
The special session will be preceded by meetings of the Central Committee and the National Executive Committee.
